Today I took a few minutes to lay down some black over the Master Series Silver. I ran out of black paint, so I will need to give this 48 hours of dry time before I can put a second coat on. I'd like to do three coats, But I don't think it's in the budget. Next up: Body work and deciding what to do with the carpet.
I had already put two coats of Master Series Silver under my cowl. Today I decided to put three coats of Rustoleum Stop Rust spray paint enamal over it. When I finished top coating the cowl I headed back into the interior of the Fiat and put a second coat of silver over the entire interior. From the fire wall all the way under the back seats. The can recommends allowing 3.5 hours drying time prior to top coating. I'm not sure if I'll get to it today, but I have seven days to top coat before needing to sand. I'd love to have three coats of black gloss on there before tomorrow. We will see.
I'm very excited. Today was a big step in getting my Fiat back together. I put down a coat of master series silver. After prepping the interior and under the cowl for the past week I was able to head outside on a beautiful day and lay out some color. Silver to be exact. All of this will be covered by rug or a cowl so neatness wasn't a huge priority for me. I really just want everything to be protected and water proof. Here are some images to check out. I hope to put another coat of silver and do some fiberglass patching before I top coat with black. After that I start on the exterior so I can get some gas in her and see if she starts!
After tearing everything up with the multi tool I had bits of tar all over. A speck here and a speck there. I decided to grab my paint thinner and soak a rag and lay it on problem areas. After letting it sit for a while any residue was easily wiped up with an extra rag. There are a few areas where the tar is still caked on pretty good and I'll need to do some detailed scraping. After it's gone, I'll do some more wiping and hopefully I'll be ready to sand it down and then paint it with Master Series Silver. That will be top coated with gloss black Rustoleum Rust Coat.
I'm super excited that my Master Series Silver has arrived. I only wish I had time to work on the interior. I need to strip the floor. sand it, clean it, prep it and seal it with this amazing rust sealer. I've heard great things about it. I'm looking forward to finishing off the interior. I can top coat this product. It supposedly has a great tooth for adhesion. We'll see! I hope I can free up some time to work on the Spider. It's killing me. Still no news on the timing belt or tensioner pulley installation. Hopefully soon.
We purchased an old mini van over the winter and learned a lot about cleaning car seats. I employed the services of my wife to help clean some of the interior pieces today. I started by wiping down the seats and panels with Bioclean. It's an enzyme based cleaner and is pretty mild. The enzymes run around and eat stains and other nasty things that I want to get rid of after the application.
After that, I took out some of the interior panels and laid them on the ground. I wiped one down with Bioclean Bac-out an done with Simple Green. Simple Green initially did the better job, but then my wife broke out the "Magic Erasers". I know everyone has seen these strange little white teflon based sponges. The tore right through the grime. I don't recommend them on the seats, but I will give some more information as time goes on. We have multiple stages of cleaning to take care of. I am providing a few pics, starting with the Simple Green vs. Bioclean and then into the "Magic Eraser". Thanks for reading.
