While this isn't a Fiat Spider, this is a really great car. In this episode they go to Italy to buy a used Dino and fix it up. Watching them fix up the old car gives me ideas about fixing up my own vintage italian car. If you like car rebuild/fixer-upper shows, then check out the whole episode by clicking here!

After hanging out in the oil bath all night the passenger caliper piston came loose. I put the brake pad in, put a wood block against it and clamped it down. It took some power, but suddenly it started sliding inward. Which means it's free! Now I just have to wait for everyone to wake up and I'll hook up the compressor to it and give her a push out. I'm hoping I can rebuild it. Only time will tell. Later today I'm going to try and disassemble the rear calipers. They also have been bathing in the MMO.
I've been working on getting all the brakes off the car. Today I finished. They are a disgusting mess. Lets of rust, cobwebs and creature residue. I think three of the calipers can be rebuilt and the fourth is seized. Currently the seized caliper and enjoying a bath in Marvel Mystery Oil. The same stuff that Luke dipped C3PO in in Star Wars a New Hope. I do have some extra rear calipers that I may take off the extra rear end, lube up, paint and rebuild to sell or trade for more parts. This car is going to need parts, parts, parts. I'm not sure what my next move is, but I may just slide under and cover the under carriage in PB Blaster. I know I'll need to unbolt just about every piece of the suspension to replace all the rubber bushing. I'll also lube up the U-joints and any other component I believe I'll need to replace or rebuild in the near or distant future. Marvel Mystery Oil is also working its way down into the cylinders of my engine. I will pick up a 38mm socket to give the crank shaft a turn next week and hope that it rotates. I will more than likely change the oil in the next few days in preparation. For now I'll just take a shower. "Thank the maker!" |
